Case Study · Residential Astro-Vastu
The Five Months When
Nothing Happened.
A family divided for three and a half years, a correction made in one afternoon, and an honest account of what I think actually changed things.
There is a version of this story I could tell you in four hundred words.
A house had a serious Vastu defect in the south-west. The defect was corrected. The family reconciled and a long-awaited pregnancy followed.
Every word of that is true, and the whole of it is misleading. Which is why I want to tell you the longer version, the one with five months in the middle where nothing happened at all.
01 · Two Brothers
Neither Position Was
Unreasonable.
The Desais had run a plastics business in Gujarat for more than a decade, and for most of that time they had run it well. Kalpesh, the younger, wanted to modernise. New machinery, new processes, new markets. His elder brother had built the company on methods that worked and saw no reason to gamble on ones that might not.
That is usually how these things begin.
The arguments became hostility. The hostility became silence. By the time I met them they had not spoken properly in three and a half years, and were running one business as two separate operations that happened to share a building.
Their parents watched it happen. Their wives tried to intervene and were gradually excluded from trying. The business that had paid for all of their lives was failing.
02 · And in the Same House
Two Griefs Under
One Roof.
They lived in the ancestral home, all of them, which is a detail that matters.
Kalpesh's wife had been trying to conceive for years. There had been treatments, then IVF, then a failed cycle, and then the particular quiet that settles over a household after a failed cycle.
Two separate griefs, and everybody had decided they were unrelated.
03 · The Sceptic
Business Problems Are Not Solved
by Moving Furniture.
Kalpesh did not call me. A friend spent weeks persuading him to.
His first response, when Vastu was suggested, was the sentence above. I have no argument with it. It is a reasonable thing to believe, and I would rather work with someone who says it out loud than someone who nods politely.
What he eventually said was that he did not know whether it would work, but that he could not sit and do nothing.
That is the most common reason people call me. It is not faith. It is the point at which doing nothing has become unbearable.
04 · What the Assessment Found
A Drain in the Zone of What
a Family Holds.
A toilet seat in the Pitru zone, and directly above it, another.
In the tradition I work within, the south-west is associated with Pitru Devta, the ancestral field, connected with stability, continuity, and the bonds that hold a family together. A toilet seat sat within that zone on the ground floor. On the first floor, built to the same plan, a second sat directly above the first.
The stacking is what made me stop. A single compromised zone is common. The same zone compromised twice, one floor above the other, is a column running the full height of the house through the part of it associated with what a family holds together.
On its own this still proves nothing. Many houses have it, and most of those families are fine. What made it worth acting on was that this family's difficulty was precisely a difficulty of continuity and of bonds.
Neither toilet was moved. Relocating plumbing on two floors of an ancestral house is the kind of recommendation that gets a consultant thanked and then quietly ignored, and in this case it was not necessary. Both were treated in place, which took one afternoon and cost very little.
Kalpesh wanted it done immediately. His elder brother said it was a waste of time and money, and said so in front of everyone.
05 · Then Nothing
The Part That Gets Left
Out.
Five months is a long time to hold a position you took on someone else's advice, while the person who told you it was foolish watches you hold it. Kalpesh waited. I am not sure I would have.
06 · What Actually Happened
Their Father Stood Up.
One evening, after another meeting had ended the way they all ended, their father stood up. He had said almost nothing for three and a half years, and he was not a man given to speeches.
He said they were brothers first and partners second. That if they destroyed the bond they would regret it for the rest of their lives. That no amount of money would bring back what they had already lost.
Then he sat down. For the first time in years, both of them listened.
The extended family, careful spectators until then, stopped spectating. Uncles and cousins who had avoided the subject started raising it. The wives, who had been shut out, were let back in. It took weeks rather than a moment, but the direction had changed.
I don't know if it was Vastu. But something has changed. And maybe I don't want to fight any more.
The elder brother, some weeks later
07 · And Then
The News They Had Been
Waiting For.
Kalpesh's wife's next IVF cycle succeeded.
The house that had been silent for three and a half years had a pregnancy in it, a father-in-law who had finally said the thing he had been holding, and two brothers who were speaking again.
I understand entirely why the family reads that as one event.
08 · What I Will and Will Not Claim
This Is the Part
I Owe You.
I will not claim the correction caused the reconciliation.
The reconciliation happened because a father who had stayed silent for three and a half years finally spoke, and because a family that had been polite stopped being polite. That is what changed it. I was not in the room.
I will not claim the correction caused the pregnancy. IVF has its own medicine, its own odds, and its own reasons for succeeding on one cycle and not another. Those belong to her doctors. Anyone who tells you a treated toilet produced a pregnancy is making a claim they cannot support, about something too precious to be casual with.
What I will say is narrower, and I think more interesting. The correction was made in month one. Nothing visible happened until month five. If it did anything, it did not do it the way people imagine. No surge, no sign, nothing anyone could point at.
What I have observed across enough years to trust the pattern is that houses with this condition tend to hold families in positions they have already outgrown. The argument stops being about the thing and starts being about the fact of arguing. Nobody moves first.
Whether correcting the zone made it easier for a father to stand up five months later, I cannot tell you. He may have been building toward it the whole time. He may have been building toward it for three and a half years.
What I can tell you is that in month five he stood up, and that he had not in the fifty-two months before it.
09 · Why I Tell It This Way
Because the Edited Version
Does Damage.
Someone reads the short version, has a correction made, waits three weeks, sees no change, and concludes the whole framework is nonsense. Or worse, concludes their situation is beyond help.
Neither is true. What is true is that these things move slowly when they move at all, that the person still has to act, and that the most important moment in this entire case was a seventy-year-old man deciding he had watched enough.
The house may have made that easier. It certainly did not do it for him.
If Something Has Stopped Moving
Start by Finding Out
What Is Actually There.
A thirty-minute diagnostic will tell you whether your space contains a condition worth correcting, and just as often that it does not, and that the difficulty you are living with is somewhere else entirely. That second answer is worth as much as the first.
